High altitude aerial photograph of Vunakunau Aerodrome.The major airbase in the Rabaul area for the Imperial Japanese Naval Air Force.

Taken from a B17"Flying Fortress" of the 19th Bomb group [heavy].

This was one of the early raids flown from Australia via Port Moresby.

One b17 was lost on this day.
