You drive accross the old main runway when you travel between Tokua airport and Kokopo. Up untill the early 1980's Rapopo could be considered as one of the better preserved and easily accessable Japanese wartime aerodromes as all the aircraft revetments were untouched and there were numerous aircraft powerplants and other bits and pieces of aircraft types lying about . There were even a few of the old servicing vehicles to be seen but THEN someone decided that the area had to be redeveloped for cocoa replanting so most everything was shoved into bomb craters and buried and the old revetments and other earthworks bulldozed. In the photograph a number of abandoned aircraft can be seen. Cna you you pick the different models??. b j bennett Thu, 27 Nov 2008 16:06:09 -0600 Transport for Bulolo http://www.pngair.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=955 <a href="http://www.pngair.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=955" target="_blank"><img title="Guinea_Airways0002.jpg" border="0" src="http://www.pngair.com/photopost/data/518/thumbs/Guinea_Airways0002.jpg" alt="Guinea_Airways0002.jpg" /></a><br /><br />by: b j bennett<br /><br />2 comments b j bennett Wed, 17 Sep 2008 04:06:05 -0500 Early NGG aircraft loading at Lae http://www.pngair.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=954 <a href="http://www.pngair.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=954" target="_blank"><img title="Guinea_Airways0014.jpg" border="0" src="http://www.pngair.com/photopost/data/518/thumbs/Guinea_Airways0014.jpg" alt="Guinea_Airways0014.jpg" /></a><br /><br />by: b j bennett<br /><br />1 comment b j bennett Wed, 17 Sep 2008 04:03:40 -0500 Guinea_Airways0013 http://www.pngair.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=953 <a href="http://www.pngair.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=953" target="_blank"><img title="Guinea_Airways0013.jpg" border="0" src="http://www.pngair.com/photopost/data/518/thumbs/Guinea_Airways0013.jpg" alt="Guinea_Airways0013.jpg" /></a><br /><br />by: b j bennett<br /><br />Description: Loading for Bulolo probably at Lae b j bennett Wed, 17 Sep 2008 04:01:59 -0500 B26 crash at Kiriwina Island http://www.pngair.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=952 <a href="http://www.pngair.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=952" target="_blank"><img title="B26_Kiriwina_Island.jpg" border="0" src="http://www.pngair.com/photopost/data/517/thumbs/B26_Kiriwina_Island.jpg" alt="B26_Kiriwina_Island.jpg" /></a><br /><br />by: b j bennett<br /><br />Description: Martin B26 &quot;Marauder&quot; ser # 40-1418 of 33 BS 22BG 5 USAAF.
